Editorial Policy

Our Mission

SAWOFF exists to help homeowners, farmers, arborists, and loggers choose and use chainsaws well. We publish honest reviews, practical comparisons, and safety and maintenance guidance — and we try to be worth citing when we do it.

Editorial Standards

• Accuracy first. Facts are checked against manufacturer documentation, official manuals, and multiple independent sources before publication.
• Evidence labeling. We distinguish hands-on test results, manufacturer specifications, and research-based assessment. We never present one as another.
• No paid placements. We do not accept payment for reviews, ratings, or rankings. Brands cannot buy coverage, a score, or a mention in a "best of" list.
• Complete opinions. Reviews include cons and "who shouldn't buy this" sections. A review that only praises is not a review.
• Original writing. We summarize manufacturer and third-party information in our own words. We do not copy spec sheets or marketing copy.

How Reviews Are Written

Every review follows the same documented process described on our testing methodology page: research, selection, hands-on testing where the saw is available to us, performance evaluation, comparison, and scored verdict using our published weighting. Articles are written by a named author who is accountable for the content, and review dates (published and last updated) are shown on every article.

Affiliate Independence

SAWOFF is a participant in the AliExpress Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. When you buy through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate relationships never influence our conclusions. Our editorial process is identical whether or not a product has an affiliate link. If a product is not worth buying, we say so — the commission on a single sale is not worth losing your trust.

Corrections Policy

We make mistakes. When we do, we fix them — openly:

• Substantive errors (wrong specifications, wrong advice, outdated pricing that changes a recommendation) are corrected and the correction is noted at the end of the affected article with the date.
• Minor typos and formatting issues are fixed silently.
• If a correction changes a review's conclusion, the rating is recalculated and the article is re-dated, with a note explaining the change.
• If our information may have influenced a reader's decision, we flag the correction clearly rather than burying it.

To report an error, email hello@sawoff.com with the article URL, the error, and any supporting source. We aim to respond within five business days.

Content Updates

Chainsaw lineups, prices, and battery ecosystems change constantly. Articles are reviewed on a rolling schedule and re-dated only when real changes are made. We do not artificially refresh dates to make content look newer. Discontinued models are labeled as discontinued rather than being presented as current.

Conflict of Interest

Our authors and editors do not accept gifts, loans, or discounts from manufacturers that create an obligation to cover or rate a product. Any review based on a manufacturer-loaned sample is disclosed in the article. We do not publish reviews of products owned by our editorial staff or their immediate family without disclosure.
