Corrections Policy
SAWOFF publishes factual, research-based information about chainsaws. When we get something wrong, we fix it openly and document the correction. This page explains exactly how that works.
How to Report an Error
Errors can be reported by anyone — readers, manufacturers, dealers, or industry professionals. To report an error, email hello@sawoff.com and include:
- The URL of the article containing the error.
- The specific text you believe is wrong (quote it).
- The correct information and, where possible, a source that supports it (e.g., an official manual, spec sheet, or recognized third-party reference).
- Your contact details, if you would like a reply.
We aim to acknowledge reports within five business days.
How We Verify Corrections
- Every report is checked against the original source (manufacturer documentation, official manuals, or a reputable independent reference).
- We do not change facts based solely on one unsourced report, an anonymous tip, or commercial pressure.
- If the claim cannot be confirmed, the article is left unchanged and the reporter is told what evidence is needed.
How Corrections Are Documented
- Substantive errors (wrong specifications, incorrect advice, or outdated pricing that changes a recommendation) are corrected and a correction note is added at the end of the article with the date and a short summary of what changed and why.
- If a correction changes a review's conclusion, the score is recalculated per our scoring methodology, and the article is re-dated with a note explaining the change.
- Minor typos and formatting fixes are made silently without a note.
- If an error may have influenced a reader's purchasing decision, the correction note is flagged clearly rather than buried.
Who Is Accountable
Every article lists a named author. The author is accountable for the content, and the editorial team is accountable for the correction process. Article dates (published and last updated) are shown on every page so readers can see whether a page has changed since it was first published.
